Effective and last updated
Form information
The consultation form asks for a trust subject, first and last name, email address, an optional telephone number, a message, and affirmative consent to sharing. The South Dakota Trust Statute Navigator performs its assessment in the browser; its answers are neither transmitted nor stored by this site.
Keep the initial message limited. Do not include a Social Security or account number, password, tax return, medical file, identification document, or other highly sensitive record.
Delivery and security data
Site hosting and security services may handle an IP address, browser user agent, request time, referrer, requested address, and verification signals to deliver pages, deter automated abuse, and investigate errors. During one browser session, the site can retain the first landing path, outside referrer, and standard UTM values. Those limited referral values may accompany a submitted consultation request so the source can be understood; simply reading the library does not send them through the form.
Purposes of use
Information submitted through the form may be used to deliver and administer the request, locate an independent attorney willing to evaluate it, understand the research or referral path that produced a submission, protect the service, comply with legal duties, and diagnose technical or delivery failures.
The publication presently runs neither a newsletter nor an advertising-analytics program. If a new use begins, this statement will be revised beforehand where applicable law requires it.
Storage and safeguards
A consultation message is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for delivery, administration, security, disputes, and legal obligations. A participating attorney, law firm, or email system can apply an independent retention schedule.
Reasonable safeguards are used, but internet transport, email, and stored systems cannot be guaranteed completely secure. The most effective first-step safeguard is to submit only the limited facts needed for intake.
Access and deletion requests
Email [email protected] to request access, correction, or deletion. Available rights, identity checks, and legal exceptions vary by residence and the type of record.
The entire public South Dakota research library remains available without a form submission. Browser settings can also restrict local session history, cached material, or security-service cookies where supported.
Independent services
Any lawyer or law firm that responds is independent and supplies separate engagement and privacy terms. Linked statutes, government pages, and other external websites maintain their own data and security practices.
